I finally made it out to Oakland for the Art Murmur- an art walk that takes place on the first Friday of each month. It was the perfect weekend to make my debut as it was blazing hot until 9pm with golden light, warm food smells, and rythmic music on every block. The crowd was a nice mix of city-type folk and dreadlocked cave people emerging for $5 pink frosted vegan cupcakes. There was music to fit everyone's taste from tribal drums to rock to a lone saxaphonist calling from the furthest corner. I wandered throughout the festival type scene and soaked in energy of such a creative, unique, and cheery rag tag of East Bay-ers. Below are my top pics from various galleries- see my flickr for the whole kitten caboodle.
Keira Kotler at Chandra Cerrito Contemporary
These are impossible to photograph, the light moves within them so elegantly when you're
standing in front of one. The color is rich and luminescent: a must-see in person.
These are urethane over acrylic. Keira also uses lightjet and other mediums, though
these are her most successful pieces.
The gallery steps. What an omen!
Rebecca Whiple at Hatch Gallery
Nice graphite drawings. I like how she gets messy and aggressive towards the
end, while maintaining enough control to preserve the drawing's delicate beauty.
Ghostly and minimal.
My friends Jenny Vilchez, Brett Amory, and Daryll Pierce.
Rune Olsen at Johansson Projects
The first moment of entering is effectively troublesome- the crowd didn't know how
to navigate the space and a traffic jam clogged up the entrance till people were
forced to step over the leashes. I think we called this anti-axial symmetry in art school.
This one creeps me out
Art Mobile - Artist Unkown :(
I like how the gallery is so teeny tiny (but not in a Fecal Face or
5024SF way) and one has to step up into the truck to view the work.
Wood panel cigarette cartons.
Agreed.

Artist unkonw. So graceful.
Ofra Fisher. He also had some of these mounted on the wall.
